"What Would Happen If A Man Tried To Run Away From The Consequences Of His Past Evil Deeds?"

'A History Of Violence' Review and Movie Quotes

Main Points From This
Excellent Review:

A History Of Violence — Rated: R

• This Movie teaches us that there are Always Consequences to Every Action. Nobody is Above the Law of Cause and Effect.

• Plenty of Gory Violence. Bullet Wounds, Broken Necks, Demolished Faces, and then even More Bullet Wounds!

• There is also a lot of Bad Language.....especially from Teenagers! What is this World coming to?

Danny never "Cussed" when he was in school.....Danny was a Good Little Christian Boy!

• There is a lot of Angry, Graphic Sex in this movie.

Maria Bello is a Sex Freak!

Running Time: 96 Minutes

A History of Violence was released back in 2005.

Danny didn't get a chance to watch it in the theaters.....but I never forgot it anyway!

It was the TV commercials advertising A History of Violence at the time that made a huge impression on me.....especially when I saw actor Ed Harris's deformed face!

I'm mean his face was seriously Messed Up!

And I wanted to know how something like that could have happened.

I think the people marketing A History of Violence knew that would be true for everyone seeing the commercial.....everyone would want to see A History of Violence just to find out how his face got so "Mangled!"

Another exciting aspect of A History of Violence is that it's directed by David Cronenberg!

And anyone familiar with David Cronenberg, knows that his movies are usually Very Good and Very Graphic.

As in Graphic Sex and Graphic Violence!

How many of you saw The Fly in 1986, starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis.....that's also a David Cronenberg movie.

Cronenberg describes himself as a Darwinist.....he believes in the "Survival of the Fittest."

Honestly, Danny believes in the "Survival of the Fittest" too!

His movies almost always involves characters in situations where either They Kill in order to survive.....or They Will Be Killed.

A History of Violence is no exception.

This movie is about.....

"A Man Trying To Hide
From His Past"

A History of Violence is adapted from a Graphic Novel written by John Wagner and illustrated by Vince Locke.

The Graphic Novel was published back in 1997 by DC Comics.

The story is about a man hiding from his past. He has hidden from his past for so long that he has forgotten who he really is and he has taken on a New Persona.

Even though A History of Violence focuses on Violence and not being able to avoid the consequences of your Past Sins.....it is also about the "Power of the Mind."

The mind is so Powerful and "User-Friendly" that you can actually teach it to be a totally different Person.....with a totally different Personality.

This is what has happened to Tom Stall.....played by Viggo Mortenson.

Tom Stall is a quiet, humble Family Man. To Danny, Stall seems a lot like how I envision Viggo Mortenson to be in his private life.

He has an incredibly Hot wife named Edie (played by Maria Bello) and two kids, his son is a teenage loser who gets picked on in school cause he's such a wimp and a sweet young daughter.

"Danny Can't Find The Inner Beauty Hidden Within Ugly Kids"

I gotta tell ya.....I think their young daughter is an Ugly Kid!!!

When you see her I'm sure you'll agree with Danny that she definitely did NOT inherit Viggo Mortensen or Maria Bello's good looks.....but hey, that's just Danny's Two Cents!

The little girl's face is as "flat" as a pancake.....I am Not Joking!

It looks like somebody beat her face in with a Frying Pan like in those old Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck Cartoons!

I wish I had a picture of her to prove it .....Pictures really do speak a Thousand Words!

So watch A History of Violence and see for yourself!

Anyway, Tom Stall and his family live in the small town of Millbrook, Indiana and, as far as anyone knows, Tom Stall has always been exactly the way he appears to be today.

But Tom Stall didn't always used to be so "Quiet" and "Humble."

From the very beginning of the movie, you know that it's going to be Good and Bloody.

As a matter of fact.....

"A History Of Violence Starts Off With
A Lot Of Violence"

One night, a couple of really bad dudes come into the diner that Stall owns and causes trouble.

The two thugs see a "Wimpy" Tom Stall and they figure that this guy will do as he's told.

But then Tom Stall busts out his "Whoopin Stick" and kill these two assholes!

The most surprising thing, on top of the fact that this nice guy killed these two hoods by himself.....is the fact that he did it so quickly and easily.

These two clowns didn't have a chance.....and they were the only ones in the diner holding the guns!

But "Guns" or "No Guns", Tom Stall Laid Down The Law!

While everyone in town is calling Stall a hero.....he's in shock over what he's done.

This is the first time that "Tom Stall" ever killed anyone.

Well.....things get even more interesting when some Real Professional Gangsters from Philadelphia show up at "Stall's Place" to Meet and Greet the hero that's all over the news.

The guy in charge is the Sinister Carl Fogarty whose played by Ed Harris.

Fogarty is the dude with the Wrecked Face and old score that he wants to settle.

You see, Fogarty is convinced that Stall is the psychopath who carved up his face with some barbed wire twenty years ago!

Fogarty is so sure of it that he starts to terrorize the Stall family to get his revenge.

So what is Stall going to do?

Is he going to wimp out and let this Ugly Freak Fogarty destroy his family?

Or is he going to bust out his "Whoopin Stick" again and teach Fogarty and his goons that it just ain't polite to threaten another man's family?

One thing is for Certain.....

"Viggo Mortensen Kicks A Lot Of Ass
In This Movie"

To Danny, A History of Violence is most notable for the brutal and ferocious attacks that mild-mannered Tom Stall inflicts on others.

I've seen Viggo Mortensen in a bunch of movies.....but it's his role in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy that I always think of.

Mortensen did a lot of killing of monsters and other creepy creatures in
The Lord of the Rings.....but he was the righteous guy doing what he has to do to save humanity.

And almost all of the death in The Rings Trilogy is Bloodless.....after all, all Three LOTR Movies were Rated PG-13.

Well, A History of Violence is Rated R.....and it totally deserves to be!

There is plenty of blood in A History of Violence!

Blood everywhere.....the violence is very graphic and can be hard to watch at times for certain people.

Not for Danny though.....TV Violence doesn't make Danny Scared!

Oh, Yeah! How could I Almost Forget to mention.....

"The Sex Scenes In
A History Of Violence"

A History of Violence — Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, Ed Harris, William Hurt and David Cronenberg

Director David Cronenberg loves to film Rough Sex Scenes!

As I mentioned earlier, that is what Cronenberg is known for.....

Graphic Violence and Graphic Sex!

David Cronenberg is my kind of guy.

After all, he has plenty of filthy perverts like Danny willing to pay good money to see Sex on Film!

One Sex Scene is a very Playful/Naughty role-playing game between Husband and Wife.

But another sex scene is more like an "I Hate You" & "I Want to Kill You" Sex Scene between Husband and Wife!

This is the kind of Pissed Off Sex where the Two Consenting Adults are Beating Each Other Up.....with their Genitals!!!

Hey.....it's better than Beating Each Other Up with Shovels, Hammers or Pots & Pans!

From a Guy's Point of View.....Danny completely understands the Need for Angry Sex between Husband and Wife!

I mean, why try to settle marital disputes through communication and compromise.....when you can "Bust a Nut" in your Woman's Ass while trying to "Hammer" her through the wall Face First!

For Viggo Mortenson, this is Very "Un-Aragorn-like".....perhaps that was the point.

Maybe Mortensen didn't want to be typecast in more Fantasy/Adventure movies so he took on darker roles that I'm not accustomed to seeing him in.

Maria Bello, on the other hand, is very accustomed to these kinds of roles.

I remember seeing Maria Bello on the TV show ER in the mid-90's.

If I recall, she wasn't a Sex-Freak back then.

However, but in 2003 she played a cocktail waitress in a movie called The Cooler.

The Cooler also starred William H. Macy and Alec Baldwin.

And in The Cooler, there are quite of few "Nude Maria Bello" Moments!

DANNY Says,

God Bless those Brave Actresses who have the courage to Strip Naked for their Art!

Of course, Danny prefers the actresses who are Good Looking and in Great Shape.....not the ones who are literally overflowing with Layers of Gelatinous Fat!

"THUNDER THIGHS!!!!"

That's what my "Dear Old Dad" used to call those Gigantic Women who, for some bizarre reason, choose to wear Tight Pants in Public!

I'm sure you've seen Women (and Men) like these walking down the sidewalk!

Seismic Tremors usually follow Every Single Footstep they make!

OH, MY GOD!

Suddenly, a horrible Nude Scene just creeped into Danny's Mind!

It was from a 2002 movie called About Schmidt.....

and it involved a HUGE Kathy Bates inside of a TINY Hot Tub!

Excuse me while I throw up for the Next 15 Minutes.

Danny's Top 5 Cool Movie Quotes!

A History Of Violence — Copyright © 2005 New Line Cinema, All Rights Reserved

Cool Movie Quote — No. 1

Edie Stall: My husband does not know you. He wouldn't know you, somebody like you.

Carl Fogaty: Oh, he knows Carl Fogarty all right. He knows me intimately. See? This isn't a completely dead eye, it still works a bit. The problem is, the only thing I can see with it is Joey Cusack, and it can see right through him, right through your husband, Edie, see what's inside him, what makes him tick. He's still the same guy, he's still crazy fucking Joey! And you know it, don't you?

Edie Stall: I know that my husband is Tom Stall, that's what I know.

Carl Fogaty: Yeah? Why don't you ask "Tom" about his older brother Ritchie? Ask "Tom" how he tried to rip my eye out with barbed wire, and ask him, Edie, how come he's so good at killing people.

Cool Movie Quote — No. 2

Carl Fogaty: Any last words before I blow your brains out you miserable prick?

Tom Stall: [now speaking as Joey Cusack] I should have killed you back in Philly.

Carl Fogaty: [Smiles] Yeah Joey, you should have.

Cool Movie Quote — No. 3

Bobby Jordan: Give me that.

Bobby's Buddy: [passing Bobby a liquor bottle, then spotting Jack and Judy smoking a joint together] Hey, isn't that, that Stall faggot?

Bobby Jordan: Yeah.

Bobby's Buddy: You should go kick his ass.

Bobby Jordan: I'm going to.

[Bobby turns his car sharply to head toward Jack, and cuts off a passing passenger truck. He gives the people in the truck the middle finger]

[Leland and Orser stare Bobby down, not saying a word. Bobby's expression falters, and he stands down as Leland and Orser drive off]

Bobby's Buddy: Who the fuck was that?

Bobby Jordan: I don't know... and I don't want to know.

[he drives off, leaving Jack and Judy alone and oblivious that he was ever there]

Cool Movie Quote — No. 4

[about Carl Fogarty]

Richie Cusack: What am I gonna do? You bust up a made man's place, you killed some of his guys, you take his eye... Jesus Joey, you took his eye. Barbed wire, wasn't it? That's disgusting! You always were the crazy one.

Tom Stall: Not anymore.

Cool Movie Quote — No. 5

Tom Stall: In this family, we do not solve problems by hitting people!

Jack Stall: No, in this family, we shoot them!

[Tom slaps Jack]
